First frost of the year last night.
Not so hard that the flowers winced,
They still bravely hold open their petals,
Unguarded.

The leaves fell, though,
And now the wind is herding them into drifts.
I hope they pile onto the the trusting blossoms,
And shield them from tonight's unsympathetic freeze.

  1. Jennifer, I'm reading this and then the sidebar where you state you have never been creative, and I smile. Right here, with this poem, you created a beautiful scene of passing season that is memorable because it is simply stated and tactile. You are most creative, naturally.

  6. hi jennifer - we've had some hard frosts recently and amazingly, the fragile spaces in the gardens are holding up! how is that? the leaves are turning really quickly now and there are already some bare trees due to the high winds of a few days ago. the beautiful little flower in the top picture surrounded by the detritus of autumn is gorgeous! steven
