New Lens

My daughter has helped understand the source of those luminous still life photos one sees in magazines and some blogs: a portrait lens.  I couldn't resist - I bought one.  The play of light on texture and color is irresistible to me.  It draws me in an unspeakable way, as if I were a helpless moth.

One of my favorite coffee mugs.  I've not quite gotten the hang of this lense yet; please bear with me.  I will be posting lots of photos as I go along.

My son made this dish in pottery class in high school.

What is your favorite lens?

  2. Hi Steven. I have a Pentax camera, so I got a Pentax 50mm f/1.4. The super wide aperture allows low light photos with an extremely shallow depth of field.

  3. My favorite lens right now is the one whose lens ring isn't damaged. It's been a tough couple of months for me and cameras.

  4. Hi Jennifer

I love the dish your son made. My camera is not SRL so I have no choice...I decided to go with the fixed lens for the time being and it has worked well but I do love what you can do. Isn't it wonderful to have savy children. My new mac is a blessing and having the kids with me teaching me all the tricks is so great...I would never find my way around it otherwise.

    Happy days

  6. A nice new and buttery lens, yes! It's the best: 50mm 1.4 it makes everything beautiful (except the mug, that was beautiful already).

Something About Sunsets

There is something about sunsets that always makes me melancholy.  Dylan Thomas whispers in my ears.  "Do not go gentle into that goo...
